I’d like to point out this video as a major difference between a self defense mindset and a sparrring mindset. The fighter on the right is a Krav Maga practioner while the fighter on the left is a Karate guy. As you can see, the krav guy kicked ass. That’s because he was calm, he was ready he was alert and when he saw his opening, he went in to finish the opponent, even just under boxing rules.
niceReally? I agree that Krav is superior to Karate when it comes to street fighting, but all this looked like to me was the Krav guy being really aggressive and throwing haymakers at Karate guy. His footwork was lacking and when he was being attacked all he did was tuck his chin and stay there. Karate guy kept getting caught because he didn’t keep his hands up and was winded like a minute into the fight. At the end of the day, it wasn’t because Krav guy did Krav or that Karate guy did Karate, it was because Krav guy was a hell of a lot more aggressive than Karate guy.
That’s just my opinion. Everyone has a right to their own.
Welp, now it’s time for my two cents. I’m with JJwarrior. THe Krav maga dude was just waaaaay mroe aggressive, more offensive, and had decent power. The karate dude wasn’t aggressive, his hands weren’t that great, his stances and footwork were notice(notice how he kept backing up in a linear fashion when the pressure was being put on him, when he should have tried to circle or go on angles.) He also really didn’t know how to use his height and reach. Overall the krav maga guy is better, because I’m pretty sure they do boxing type drills more often, you can see it in his punching mechanics. Karate doesn’t really do boxing type drills unless it’s kyokushin or if it’s someone like me who does both separately. So it’s just falls on the fighters and how they are trained, not the style itself.
hell I’ve seen karate fighters just as aggressive as that krav maga, I used to spar one regularly. And if you can’t adjust to that style of fighting you get crumpled like the karate guy did.
Look how the karate guy goes in close right away when the match starts. In a more free style fight that could work, cuz karate does specialize in upclose fighting, but in boxing he should have backed on straight or on a angle and worked the jab and cross more.
1. I can kick either guys ass with ease in this video. ;)
2. I have seen these videos before. One time it was an Aikido guy vs. TKD guy. The one thing I have noticed in all of them is how much they guys who are examples in these videos suck. I have no idea what the hell the guy on the left was doing in general, and the guy on the right had an opening far sooner than he took it. That’s why I hate these videos… it all has to do with the level of expertise of the participants and NOT what the MA is.
Not sure if I could beat them in a boxing match, it’s been too long since I’ve fought with my hands. But throw me in for a free spar, no gloves or pads, and I could probably end it pretty quick.
lol. It’s hard to say, since they are conforming to a style they aren’t used to. Actually the whole idea of this is dumb, since neither of them are boxers essentially. If it was just karate vs Krav maga in it’s purest sense, it could look a lot different. But truthfully, just by looking at the way they move in stances or lack there of, or they way they attack and defend, there is a chance that I could beat them, esp the karate dude. If he’s a black belt…oh boy. The Km dude looks like he’s physically more capable if anything, his technique is decent too.But his aggression and tendency to go to fast and hard could be used against him.
Haha sorry, I love deep analysis alot.
I agree with you about Krav guy. His haymakers are way too telegraphed and his feet almost come off the ground when he punches, I could throw him easily. Karate guy is tall which is a good advantage but I could probably get a takedown on him (not from my style but you use what’s useful lol) cuz his feet are kind of sucky as well. Otherwise it would just be a lot of movement and maybe some locks when I saw the opportunities.

Well, yeah, neither of them really performed the physical components of their style because it was clearly a boxing-rules spar. That being said, aggression is a huge part of what’s taught in KM, and that’s what makes it so successful in this spar. It doesn’t even matter that the KM guy was only tucking his chin; if it was such a poor defence then the karate guy should have laid the smack down on him, rather than dropping his hands after he threw his first punch.
Right, so it has nothing to do with Krav Maga or Karate, it has to do with the individuals, whose main difference was aggression and stamina (I only say stamina cuz you can hear karate guy panting like 30 seconds in)

Creationism is false.
False. Creationism is not a hypothesis. It’s untestable and therefore shouldn’t be regarded in any scientific manner whatsoever
